As far as we know, this grammar and dictionary is a unique book of the kind in our country, but perhaps beyond its borders even. Someone might ask: “Why bother with learning Irish when a majority of the Irish does not know their, old Celtic language?” A few answers may be given. The first is exclusively linguistic-every language, including Irish itself, is its own reason for studying. The second one is logical-someone must be the first to start studying a language. Finally, there are practical reasons-the Irish language belongs to a big Indo-European family of languages and it has been expanding and experiencing a real renaissance for the last ten years. The evidence of that are a voluminous literature for Irish learning, as well as many Irish learning courses worldwide and a great number of related websites.
